This well is pumped by a wooden jerker line with power
from the Fitzgerald Rig. The horizontal walking beam moves
like a teeter-totter. The beam is connected to rods which
open and close valves below which pump the oil to the
surface. Above the well stands the typical three-pole
derrick used to haul the pump rods and tubing out of the
well. Once Petrolia was a forest of these black ash derricks.
When the swamps were drained and disappeared, so did the
black ash tree.
